why is iCloud so so slow

It's really frustrating to use icloud mail. It is very unresponsive. Trying to just delete an email will hang for a few seconds. The company has insane amounts of cashflow, why don't they use some to put it back into icloud mail?

What exactly do you mean by iCloud being "slow"?

It's slow because you are uploading data at no faster than your internet connection's upload speed and the load on Apple's servers at the time.

I agree with Kappy, it really does depend on your internet speed whether its wi-fi or 3G and the content you are trying to send to iCloud.

Well iCloud is an optional service so its not mandatory to sign up for it.

I agree, iCloud is very slow. The speed of one's internet connection is obviously a factor. However, no matter what my internet connection happens to be, iCloud is much slower than the other sites or services that I use.

Obviously, iCloud is an optional service but it's only by bringing shortcomings to Apple's attention that we can hope for improvements to Apple products and services.

I think what is really bugging me is that mail is slower than MobileMe ever was. If it remained status quo, I wouldn't mind, as I thought MobileMe was good. For those of us thinking it would be an ehancement, it's somewhat disappointing so far. Features are good, speed not so much.

you're correct, iCloud is ridicously slow. At least once a week, my email bogs down to almost a dialup speed connection. I have an ultrafast DSL connection, all other web sites and programs work as they should - and fast.

It is just iCloud. Then when I go to work, i try it again there - same thing.

Only seems to happen one or two days per week - but quite obviously Apple did not figure on the popularity or take up of iCloud and their servers are being hammered.

Don't believe all the BS that people are telling you that it 'must be your connection' - it is rubbish. Apple needs to spend some of their millions fixing this a.s.a.p - in the meantime, I'm going back to gmail until it is fixed. !!

Agreed. It is not my connection speed. Everything else runs lightning fast, but iCloud seems like dial-up. I am losing patience with it quickly. Has Apple ever acknowledged this problem?

I'm not aware of Apple acknowledging this problem with iCloud. I think hepkat63's assessment is right.

I think it's also unfortunate that one can't share files with iCloud the way one could with MobileMe.

I was wondering why icloud was so slow also. Everything else does run fast Xcept Icloud, & yes especially mail. Hopefully Apple addresses this problem soon as I am regretting signing up for iCloud. I also agree with hepkat63.

I too have noticed that iCloud is much slower than other mail providers (gmail, yahoo, hotmail). I very much like the Apple ecosystem and am very hopeful about the future integration of products from Apple. Perhaps it is nieve, but I just like integration that Apple has provided in its ecosystem.

It just takes much longer to do things in iCloud as opposed to the other service providers. I had planned on moving the bulk of my mail from yahoo over to iCloud, but I am holding off on doing that for now. I really like the iCloud interface much better than yahoo's and again would like to just simplify things by staying in the Apple ecosystem. However I question how much benefit I really will have by using iCloud over other providers. Hotmail has just offered a premium service without ads that is much faster than iCloud and has a similar layout.

So for now I plan to just keep things as they are. I do plan to move away from yahoo, but I dont want to move multiple times. If iCloud does not improve, I will unfortunatley look elsewhere (gmail or hotmail).

When I am using my PC at home with Verizon Fios, I agree that iCloud has been really slow to load up at times. Sometimes it works fine - other times I just get that spinning wheel that takes forever (it seems) to go away. Very very slow and very frustrating.

PS: never seem to have a problem on my Macs or iPhones...
