Dec 2, 2011 5:54 PM in response to damuserby b noir,Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

May 25, 2012 7:59 AM in response to b noirby msbraun6,Is this still a valid answer? It is a year later since this was posted, so am wondering if anything has changed. I was having the same problem and tried this fix. Things have gone from bad to worse. My computer now can't even find ITunes. Help would be appreciated.

May 25, 2012 2:39 PM in response to msbraun6by b noir,My computer now can't even find ITunes.
Doublechecking. Do you mean that you're now being told that the older version of itunes can't be removed? (Instead of the older version of Bonjour can't be removed?)

Jun 1, 2012 4:33 PM in response to b noirby msbraun6,I uninstalled iTunes, after trying the fix suggested above. While doing a reinstall I got these messages:
"iTunes Installer Interrupted"
"The older version of Bonjour cannot be removed."
"missing shortcut"
Thank you for any help. As of now, I cannot find or open iTunes at all, nor can I reinstall it.

Jun 1, 2012 4:51 PM in response to msbraun6by b noir,Okay.
"The older version of Bonjour cannot be removed."
Walk us through what happened when you tried to use CleanUp to remove Bonjour, please.

Jun 1, 2012 5:04 PM in response to b noirby msbraun6,I have been out of town for a week so will try to remember as best I can, but did follow the directions above -- ran the CleanUp, removed all the instances of Bonjour, restarted the computer. Somewhere in there I also decided to uninstall ITunes itself; I think I did that afterwards, but am not sure.

Jun 1, 2012 5:34 PM in response to msbraun6by b noir,Many thanks.
Launch CleanUp again. Can you see any Bonjour entries in there now?
If not, have a look at the top of the list of programs in CleanUp.
Do you see any entries in there that:
(a) Lack a program name but have an (All Users) followed by a version number in square brackets? If so, what is the version number?
(b) Lack a program number and a version number, and just have (All Users)?
(c) Lack everything ... it's just a blank line?

Jun 1, 2012 6:01 PM in response to b noirby msbraun6,I did CleanUp again while awaiting your reply. There was one instance of Bonjour which I removed. Restarted the computer as instructed and re-ran ITunes Setup. This time it gave me the message that it couldn't find the installation package with ITunes.msi and that the "older version of ITunes cannot be removed."
Interestingly, I opened up the CleanUp now again -- and (All Users) Bonjour [3.0.0.10] is listed again. There are also a couple of (All Users) listed with nothing after it. And these which may be applicable:
(All Users) Apple Application Support [2.1.7]
(All Users) Apple Mobile Device Support [5.1.1.4]
(All Users) Apple Software Update [2.1.3.127]
(All Users) ITunes [10.2.1.1]

Jun 1, 2012 6:11 PM in response to msbraun6by b noir,(All Users) Bonjour [3.0.0.10] is listed again.
I think we're right with that particular one now. (3.0.0.10 is the current Bonjour version.) AAS, AMDS and ASU look good too.
This time it gave me the message that it couldn't find the installation package with ITunes.msi and that the "older version of ITunes cannot be removed."
Okay. In CleanUp, let's try removing the (All Users) ITunes [10.2.1.1] line.
Quit out of Cleanup, restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go in properly this time?

Jun 1, 2012 8:48 PM in response to b noirby msbraun6,I thought the problem was solved, because iTunes finally did complete the installation. However, now a new problem arose. After clicking the "Agree" for the license agreement, a new Windows message came up:
Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows
"To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program."
I receive the same message after trying to open iTunes several more times.
Going to the Windows Help and Support for this I read,
"If you are using the recommended security settings and your antivirus software did not detect a threat, your computer is probably not under attack. In this case, the program that DEP closed might not run correctly when DEP is turned on. To see if a DEP-compatible version of the program is available, visit the software publisher's Web site."
Now what??

Jun 1, 2012 8:56 PM in response to msbraun6by b noir,It's fighting hard.
Can you check something for me?
Try launching your QuickTime Player. Does that also fail to launch (with or without an error message)?

Jun 1, 2012 9:22 PM in response to b noirby msbraun6,It doesn't seem to be here anymore. I believe it was one of the items deleted when I uninstalled iTunes. Shall I download it again?
You are being so patient with me. I do appreciate it.

Jun 1, 2012 9:43 PM in response to msbraun6by b noir,Shall I download it again?
Yes please. Either by ASU, or using an installer from the website:

Jun 1, 2012 9:55 PM in response to b noirby msbraun6,Have been trying via the website. No download starts after multiple tries. I don't know what ASU is.
Oh, wait -- will QuickTime 7.7.2 be fine? It still wouldn't download from the link you gave, but I clicked on previous versions and found that one from May 15, 2012.
