Follow these instructions:

Turn off Lost Mode or change your contact info

You can turn off Lost Mode by entering the passcode on the device, or by following the steps below. You can also follow the steps below to change the contact information displayed on your lost device.

Note: If your credit and debit cards for Apple Pay were suspended because you put your device in Lost Mode, when you turn off Lost Mode and sign in to iCloud, you can resume using your cards.

  1. Go to Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.

If you don’t see Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, your account just has access to iCloud web-only features. To gain access to Find My iPhone and other iCloud features, set up iCloud on your iOS device or Mac

  2. Click All Devices, then select the device that’s in Lost Mode.
  3. Click Lost Mode, then change the information or click Stop Lost Mode

I know this is an old thread but in case it helps someone - I thought I had lost my iPad, so I locked it using the Find My iPhone app. I found it a couple of days later. It’s EASY to unlock. Mine had charge left in the battery, but if not, plug it in. As soon as it opens to the “This iPad was lost, Call this number (number shown)” screen, press the homekey. You’ll get the screen that asks for your access code. Enter it, and you’re good to go.

I feel the original question wasn't fully understood. What I wanted to find out was how do you disable the requirement of entering a four digit code to access your iPhone every time you want to use it after you've found your iPhone. The answer, as inferred but not--to me--explicit above, is (I'm a neophyte): go to Settings>General>Passcode Lock, enter the four-digit code (again) and touch Turn Passcode Off and enter the code yet again. You should then be able to exit your iPhone and re-enter without the four-digit code.

Ok in my situation I lost my iPad and then set it up to remote lock. Now that I have reported the theft to the police, they have asked me undo the remote lock so that they can find the pad. So I guess if this cannot be undone, then the person who has the iPad cannot get on wifi so basically the Pad is gone and theres no way to find it. This should be explained in the help for Find my iphone. The police have told me that they don't remember a case where the item wasn't found if left unlocked. Sooner or later the person gets online. Up until this point I had hope of getting the Pad back.

Thanks for these posts. I now understand that my stolen iPhone is locked until I get it back in my hands. I have also discovered that it is very easy for a thief to get by the lock (Youtube videos show just how to do it.) It also appears that by locking the phone, you can no longer track it to recover it. This absolutely should be clearly explained, as a warning at the time you are trying to take action on iCloud. You also don't seem to be able to get the history up so you can show the last known whereabouts of your phone. ***?
