Q: installing AppleWorks

We have a lot of older AppleWorks docs that we still need to access occasionally. We also still have a PBook G4 which will run Tiger (and thus Classic), as well as our ClarisWorks 5 install CD.

Our thought was that perhaps we would have better luck accessing these files with AppleWorks 5 than with AppleWorks 6. (which returns an error message opening many of them).

The installer will start under Classic, but not complete installation (there is a message the installation could not be completed).

Any suggestions?

Only AppleWorks 6.2.9 has problems with ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files. If you have an installer disk for AppleWorks 6.2.7 or earlier you could install that & open the files. Personally, I don't recommend 6.2.7 as it was very, very, very buggy, but in this one area it is better than 6.2.9. I think 6.2.4 is best for anyone who might have any of these ClarisWorks files.

I actually was having I/O error problems opening in AW 6.2.7 (as well as 6.2.9)-----which is why was trying to install v5.

Mystified as to why cannot install under Classic on the G4 from the CD. (and this was with Classic already launched).
