Unable to post links to home screen

Hi, my iPhone 4 no longer gives me the option to add links to my home screen, something I could do until a week or so ago. I know some people don't like to do this, but I found the facility very useful. Sadly I am not a techie so would be really grateful for any advice in very plain English!
