That's the feature when you hit home button at home page. So all it does is it closes the onscreen keyboard as I hit search and returns no results, I can see the 4 docked app icons revealed as the keyboard closes.
I notice that I can fix this issue sometimes by rebooting iPhone, but after 1-2 searches it gets broken again. Anyone else having this issue?

On rebooting it works for a while before it gets bugged again.
The search doesnt work properly.
Mine is iPhone 4S 64GB iOS 5.0.1 version.

Same product as you Ankur. Same problem with search. E.g., entering "Skype" does not find the Skype app that is installed on the phone.
This is not a setting error, as "Apps" is "on" in the Spotlight Search settings.
When it's not working, you don't even get "Search Web" option, which should obviously be returned for any text you enter in the search box.
Checking and unchecking some of the categories in the Settings has made search work; don't know if it will stick.
Just searched on this issue today. Spotlight search pretty much has become a non-working function for me since 5.01. I just entered "Redlands" which I know is in my address book. It took over a minute to return the address.
This is such a fundamental flaw Apple. I'm reaching a point of not trusting any release for at least 3 months
The same on my iPhone 4S with iOS 5.0.1. Must disable the in-Mail search option in General->Spotlight settings menu to make it work again, but you loose all the Mail indexing.
Yeah... 2 months since iOS5 and there's been no proper fix on the more critical issues...
