Q: "Change disk" problems in TimeMachine

I'm hitting a problem I see reported elsewhere where the "Change disk" button in TimeMachine system preferences is not greyed out, but is inactive. This has occurred for me (after many years troublefree working) when disk-full struggles eventually prompted me to start over, reformating the same physical external firewire disk for use as a TimeMachine backup volume. Disk Utility reports no problems, correct Partition Map format (APM for a PowerPC iMac). I found and tried the bizarre disable BackToMyMac suggestion, repeatedly trashed TimeMachine and System Config system prefs + restarts with no joy. I know in Lion you can coerce some settings via Terminal using the new-to-Lion tmutil, but I'm not aware of any way of doing this in Leopard?

TIA

@Pondini: did you ever get to the bottom of the cause why BackToMyMac can cause this problem? Is there a clue there? I've signed this machine out of what is anyway now a defunct MobileMe account (as it's a Leopard machine it can't access iCloud)

I don't think it was fixed in Leopard, but seems to be ok in Snow Leopard and Lion.  I haven't seen a post about it in a long time.

However, if turning it off didn't help you, the problem must be elsewhere.  As BDAqua says, there appear to be deeper problems on your system.
