Early 2008 MacBook Pro and NVIDIA 8600 Failure = New Logic Board

Hello,

My early 2008 MBP logic board was just replaced (December 2011) under Quality Program (E1).

From what I understand NVIDIA has a know issue that is causing the logic board to fail resulting in Apple replacing these boards as needed.

My problem with this solution is they are replacing the faulty parts with the exact same parts that should fail again... am I wrong?

When I check my system it shows the same NIVIDA card as it did before:

Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT

I know nothing last forever but I only got barely 3 years out of mine and I see I was luckier than most.

Seems like most failed in a year or two.

I also have a HP laptop thats older and still running great.

In addition, I'm a tech where I work and the laptops there are still running great after 5 years so this fix seems very limited to me on a maching I expected to last a lot longer.

Don't get me wrong, I love my MBP but I honestly don't feel like it's going to last now.

Yes, if this same board gives me another 3 years I would be greatful but for the money initially spent on it, I would would have expected a better replacement part be installed instead of the same faulty part that is bound to fail again and possibly sooner this time.

If I'm wrong and the replacement part is not the same defective part, please correct me.

Thanks in advanced,

Wayne

Spider, I have the same Mac and my logic board just died on me 😟 If this was an issue with these Macs will apple fix this for free even after this time?

Apple will only replace the logic board IF the unit is Less the 4 year old from Date of Purchase AND "IF" the unit will boot and they can test and get a code stating that it was the NVidia chip that has failed.

If those 2 requirements are not met then Apple will do nothing for you.
