It's about 5-6W from what I've gathered.
The USB wall charger delivers 5V at 1A, thus, in simplistic terms, 5 X 1 =5watts.
There are devices you can buy at Home Depot type stores that you plug into the outlet, then plug your device into. They give you a read out of how much energy whatever is plugged into them draws. Very useful when determining if it's more cost effective to buy a new 'fridge, too.

I am wondering if there is any application for iphone which can alarm or help me to know how much energy I have been consuming while charging, or using different applications. or even, if there is possibility of designing one with that function?
I am currently working on a project which is about the energy consumption of iphone applications. I have been working on my iphone (a 2 years old iphone 3G) and tried to find out the top 100 applications which consume the most electricity. Any suggestions or ideas?

You'll have to figure out a way to measure this externally, as Apple does not permit apps to have that kind of access in iOS, thus you won't find any apps to do so. You could, however, jailbreak your phone, design your own app, and have the access you want. However, this would skew your results since you jailbroke the phone.

One more question about the previous reply; all of you guys said 5W is used to charge the iphone.
Does this mean, 100% charged phone, contains electricity that is equal to 5W?
Simply putting, is 100% that shows on the screen equals to 5W? (100% = 5W ?)
If this is the case, when the phone battery icon shows 50%, does this mean 2.5W have been used?
