Quicktime - Enterprise Deployment

I wish I had an answer for that one as well. We have around 7000 Windows PCs with QuickTime installed and due to the wonderful little security exploit in every version prior to 7.0.4 we've got to patch them to 7.0.4 via SMS push.

So far our developers have been unable to find any way to get SMS to install Apple's stand-alone QT installer. I'm baffled as to why this should be the case. We don't see these kinds of issues with (say) Adobe's free media player products.

If we can't find a way to fix this, the only other alternative is to push out a job that will remove QT from all 7000 PCs. You'd think Apple would want to avoid a scenario like that one.

Perhaps the tips on AppDeploy will help (search the site for QuickTime to find some additional tips).

Well, if you have 7000 PCs to maintain, hopefully you've some software like Ghost you can use to send out the updated version. We did that here to upgrade our PCs from QuickTime 6.52 to 7.04 and it worked like a charm!

So to speak....After upgrading to 7.04, we started getting the problem mentioned elsewhere here, where audio no longer works. Downgrading back to 6.52 solved the problem but as there were security issues involved with the older version, we may have to remove the software.
