Why cant I put a dvd/cd into my macbook?

I cannot insert a disc into my Mac. There is nothing showing up to eject, but it feels like there is something in the drive. What shoudl I do?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Are you certain nothing is in the drive, even though it may not show up on the screen?

No, I am not sure. I have checked in my disc utility and it shows nothing but the hard drive disc. It says "ne media." It feels like something is in there, but I have no idea what it could be.

Reboot it while holding the trackpad key to try and force-eject any disc that may be in there.
