Hi, Just moved to macbook pro 2011 10.6 version (from pc world) and unable to
use canon scanner 9950f--i can see the toolbox but when i hit scan i get no
driver message---checked canon and no driver available--has anyone been
able to use this scanner in snow leopard macbook pro

But BEWARE: Canon does not support OS X 10.7 (Lion)! They simply do not have a driver or Toolbox for the current version of OS X.
Apparently, the Canon software uses Rosetta, hence cannot work under Lion.
OK, I see that Canon does not support Lion. I bought a CanoScan 9950 and want to have it recognized and run VueScan. So far I cannot get the scanner recognized in About the Mac nor in VueScan. I downloaded drivers from Canon but it seems from the conversation they don't work with Lion. So what is a boy supposed to do? Is there a way to get the scanner recognized and run with VueScan or am I just SOL? Surely there has to be a fix.
In addition I have a Canoscan FS2710 which I have not been able to use for ages.

exactly. so is there currently a way to configure the scanner and use vuescan app? ed hamrick author of vuescan seems to think there is.
If it does not include the 9950F then contact Canon and put pressure on them to support it.
If VueScan supports the scanner, then VueScan's website is the place to get help installing it and setting it up.
I've contacted VueScan and Ed Hamrick states the app supports both CanoScan 9950 and CanoScan 2710f. So I suppose I need to work with VueScan to sort it out. Not sure what else I can do.
I don't think there's any reason to try anything else. It's Hamrick's software — let Hamrick help you get it working. No one knows it better than he does.
I am working with Hamrick. Hoping we can fix this thing.

I'm in Mexico City, and I have the same problem to run CanoScan 9950F with Lion 10.7. I tried the VueScan and it worked, but I cannot scan 4x5 norm 35mm transparencies. Does anyone know how to make it work with them?
What *does* it work with? Have you contacted Ed Hamrick for assistance?
I've confirmed that the older canon driver for the 9950F that is compatible with Snow Leopard - canon driver 10.2.4.1X:
will work under Lion (10.7.4). This will permit Preview to scan directly from the scanner, and Photoshop CS6 will also recognize the scanner for direct scanning. VueScan now "sees" the scanner, but the scans it produces are skewed and incomplete. I've a message in to Ed Hamrick about this now.
