EditorsKeys for Logic Pro is a BAD PRODUCT: Read here (Editors Keys)

I bought a EditorsKeys (Editors Keys Keyboard) for Logic and was horrified to open the box, plug it in, and discover it's a PC keyboard layout, not a Mac layout.

Sure, it works with a Macintosh, bet let me explain. I started off as a Pro-Tools user in 2000, and made it my personal mission to learn every keyboard shortcut there was. I even learned ones that weren't well documented. After all, the faster you can edit music, the more music you can make. And when creativity is flowing, you don't want to fuss around with the mouse and menus, you just want to get it done. Keyboard shortcuts often involve the arrow keys, the function keys, and the numeric keypad. Keyboard shortcuts are also important when toggeling between applications. EditorsKeys claimes their product will help you reach a speed of 40% faster. REALLY? When does that happen, AFTER you completely relearn the Keyboard shortcuts you already know on the Mac Keyboard layout, because your keyboard is a PC KEYBOARD. Not only are the Command and control keys reversed, but the relationship of these keys to the other keys is completely different. The functions keys are different.

You can see for yourself by looking at pictures. As far as I know, Logic is strictly a Macintosh application. And I suspect Macintosh users would prefer to work on a Macintosh keyboard.

There you have it.

Fine, Bad Product could be replaced with another phrase. I wrote the company. No refund was offered. But even if I did get a refund, I am confident 99% of Logic users do not want this product. Therefor, I am warning other Logic users of the pitfalls. I can't think of one reason why it would be a good idea to learn Logic Pro on a PC keyboard. Not one.

The reason for this post, is to make sure anyone who does the research is aware that this product is a PC keyboard which has numerous differences from the mac keyboard. The obvious one that anyone learning keyboard shortcuts would notice in the first 5 seconds is the layout of the COMMAND and CTRL keys, which can be remapped, but still has considerable differences in spacial relationship. Logic is a music making program. Many users are musicians. Many musicians know the importance of spacial relationship. Drummers arrange their drums a particular way. Guitarists get familiar with the pick up configuration on their guitars, Vocalists practice proximity relationships. Therefore, in respect to THIS PARTICULAR PROGRAM, LOGIC, I strongly suggest users consider sticking with a MAC keyboard layout. If you can afford a MAC, and you can afford LOGIC and all the other stuff that comes with making music, then you can aford a MAC keyboard. besides, this editors key keyboard is MORE expensive than a mac keyboard. Obviously someone didn't do their research before commenting.

For Logic, I suggest the stickers on a mac keyboard.

If you are a PC user switching to MAC, then maybe a PC keyboard wont bother you. It's just important that people should know what they are buying before they buy it.

I am lightening fast on a mac computer. I know all the keyboard shortcuts for the OS, and many other programs like Excel, Outlook, Pro-Tools, and more. When people see me juggle between applications and perform tasks, their head spins. For someone who is like me, or aspires to learn to be efficient on a computer, a consistent keybaord is a must. A person could learn to switch between a PC and MAC keyboard just like someone can switch between a guitar and a bass, but why spend that time if you don't have to.

• There is an extra key to the left of the space bar, between the option key.

• The arrow keys are lumped in differently

• Where is the eject key?

• Delete and backspace rebversed

• Where is F13, F14, F15, F16, F17,F18,F19 ?

• Why is the Enter key so GIANT?

• The numeric Keypad and Page UP/DOWN Home key areas are completely different

most important, the relationship of the command, ctrl, and option keys are very different. It should be noted that there is a slight difference in key proximity between the macbook and the iMac. But it's nothing like the PC keyboard.

The site now does the official Apple Keyboards (and wireless ones are coming soon.) All advise was listened to and the products have been made better than before, which is great. ;-)
