Apple mail wont download my gmails

Hi,

Hope someone can help me.

My email has been working fine for years. I went away for 4 days, come back and suddenly Apple mail will not download any of my mail

from gmail. Keeps saying:

There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Anita” or try again.

The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop.gmail.com” on port 995 timed out.

Have checked all the setting in gmail and Apple mail and everything seems fine.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many many thanks!!😕

I work on a mac 10.6 - snow leopard

macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.2), Snow Leopard

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.

Move this Folder to the Desktop...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/

Move this file to the Desktop...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index

Reboot.

Note: /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index may or may not not exist in 10.5 & up.
