How do I sync my Linux music collection to my iPad?

I bought an iPad1 (3G & 64GB) and recently received an iPod nano as a gift. I run Linux and would like to utilize this $1000 investment. I used a work laptop to initialize them, but would like to use them beyond mobile email and web browsing.

The reverse engineering by the open source crowd seems to not support the iPad or the Nano. Apple is also doing it's level best to stymie the open source reverse engienering.

Not interested in spending $100 for the pleasure of dual booting.

Not interested in handing Apple $800 for a machine dedicated to supporting these.

Are these bricks?
