No Airplay icon on any device, can´t find my new AppleTV 2

Hello,

I just bought a new AppleTV (2G, software 4.4.3), connected to my network, tried out the YouTube-App and everything was great. When I tried to use Airplay I recognized, that there are no Airplay-Icons anywhere... not on my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1), and not on my Mac via iTunes (10.5.1), also with my Remote-App, nothing could be found... It´s both connected to the same WiFi (doublechecked it), I restartet and resetted everything, tried out the magic trick with changing the language, turned off all firewalls, there is still no airplay icon anywhere.

When I tried to find an answer in the manual, the answer was "Problems? No." But YES there is a big problem!

Its my birthday and I just bought this great new projector and apple tv, and I am totally freaking out. It´s the first time, apple stuff just doesnt work.

Do you have any solutions?

Airplay icon is next to play ffw rew buttons on play screen.

Have you enabled Home Sharing on it and iPhone yet? Would be needed for Remote app I suspect though not necessarily Airplay.

Also restart all devices - it may pick them up on start up.

Oh, also check Airplay isn't disabled in Settings menus on AppleTV.

Home Sharing is definetly enabled on AppleTV, iTunes and iPhone, doublechecked

I restarted all deviced more then once

Airplay is enabled

I know, where the Airplay-Icons should be, I used it at my friends house and also in the Apple-Store I could trie out the AirPlay-Function with my iPhone 4... The problems seems to be a new one, the AppleTV is kind of invisible...

when you start playing a song in itunes on ios device is there an icon directly to the right of the ffw rew play buttons?

When i play a song on my iPhone4, there are only the skip-buttons on the right and left of the play-button. When i watch a Video on youTube with my iPhone 4, there is only the sharing icon (favourites, send url and tweet) where the AirPlay-button should also be... same in all other applications, no icon

Does the iTunes library list under Computers on AppleTV?

Have you compared the LAN IP addresses of each device to ensufre they are part of same IP range and subnet?

Okay I don´t have a clue what this means, but all devices have the same Subnet-IP (255.255.255.0) and they all have the same router adress (192.168.178.1), same DNS (same as router adress).

just found out, that the icons appear, when i turn off my wifi-password...

so it works but now everybody can use my wifi... this can´t be the only solution?

The solution in my case:

In my router menu I have 5 ways to protect my WiFi.

➕ 1. No protection

➕ 2. WEP

➕ 3. WPA (TKIP)

4. WPA (CCMP) didn´t try this one

➖ 5. WPA (+WPA2)

It didn´t work under WPA +WPA2, then i found out that with WPA (TKIP) works fine. Don´t what that means, but I don´t care... just happy

Problems? No.

this post above is perfect. thanks for the info. i was having the same problem with an airplay ready receiver and i had to change my router security also. thanks for this, it works great now!! 🙂
