Try closing all apps completely and then do a reset and see if that helps. To close all apps : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

To reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

For Safari you could also try clearing its cache via : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (and Clear History)

Same thing is happening to me. Safari crashes constantly and different apps crashing out. I have done Cold boot, closed all apps in tray, deleted apps and reinstalled them, done a full reset on the iPad and I am still getting constant crashing and overall slowness of iPad. My wife has an iPad 1 also and she is experiencing the same thing. The iPad is more of a chore now and not fun anymore. Would love to go back to an old update and have my iPad running like it did when I first bought it. Apples only fix is to recommend buying the iPad 2.

My apps also started to crush on IPAD1 since the update of the OS. I tried reset, reset to factory defaults twice and restore one app at a time -it behaved the same with only a few apps. then I reset to defaults and setup as a new IPAD it worked with a few apps howevere I needed many of my old apps - communication software for special needs children. Proloquo2 Go. So I ended up reset it again to factory defaults and restore from my old IPAD backup. It went okay for a day or so just using a couple of apps and teh story started again. It even crushes when I access the Settings

I hope Apple will release a new version of the OS or provide a solution.

Question everyone who is having problems: Did you upgrade to 5.0 (or 5.0.1) through iTunes or did you do an update directly from your iPad?

I have two iPad 1's in our house. Through iTunes, it downloaded a 700MB file to update, through the iPad directly it was under 100MB.

The iPad that was updated directly has had huge crashing problems since then.

Just seeing if there is a connection. Thanks
