Problem with connection to University wifi after update

hi,

Before the latest os lion update I could use safari easily to connect to my university internet.However, after updating I cannot seem to get the screen where I can input my university username and password. Mail does not either either and when opened under this paradigm it prevents my computer from shutting down.

When I use firefox I am able to connect to the internet properly.

Please advise...
