Cannot send mail an error occurred while delivering this message what's up?

What message?

Philly - "an error occurred while delivering this message" is what I think the OP is referring to.

Make sure that your password and username are correct and filled in - including in the Outgoing Mail Server section of the mail settings - tap the arrow next to smtp.xxx.com (whatever it says there) and then tap the arrow next to smtp.xxx.com (whatever it says there) under the primary server Setting. Even if it says that the username and password are optional, fill it in anyway.

If that doesn't work, restart the iPad and see if you can send mail then.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

If that doesn't work, delete the email account and then start all over and add it back into the mail settings.

I'm having the same issue.

It's an iPad 2 running 5.1

The account is an online exchange account through Office 365 with a E1 plan attached to it.

Autocomplete works and it fills out the server details for me.

Magic reboot didn’t fix it. Also deleted and re added the account and now it won’t even receive.

Any ideas?

I am having the same issue... It's only happening to certain emails I send with attachments. I deleted account and re entered still no good.... I checked connectivity tool in exchange and it checked out fine... Anybody have any suggestions?

Here's how our problem was solved:

One of our users was having the same issue, then noticed that his mailbox was *literally* out of quota! We use GoogleApps for business, and it's setup on all our iOS devices as Exchange. Turns out that he couldn't send through Exchange, though he could receive just fine. It wasn't an issue with the credentials, since the account being setup as Exchange, it uses the same credentials to send/receive.

Adding the same email account to the iPad as an IMAP account allowed him to send just fine.

Went to the webmail interface of Google, and sure enough, he was at 25GB out of 25GB used. After freeing up a couple of GBs and letting the changes propagate to the iPad, it was able to send again.
