QLogic vs. Emulex Switches -- I need documentation

Howdy, We bought the Emulex 355 off the Apple site, and I'm convinced it's junk. Most everybody says go with the QLogic. Now I'm trying to convince my IT guys to return the Vixel and purchase the QLogic. They want documentation that says the QLogic is better. Anybody out there got any suggestions? (I understand the QLogic has more ports, but we aren't out of ports yet on the Emulex)

Thanks for any advice or info.

Daniel,

The Emulex 355 isn't "junk" if you stay with one switch. It just doesn't scale well -- it uses arbitrated loop technology (though it is, in fact, switched internally), so if you connect multiple switches you will have "hops" in the fabric, and things will slow down.

If you will eventually go to 16 or 32 or more ports, then you absolutely would be better served with the Qlogic switch. If all you're doing is connecting a couple RAIDs to a couple hosts, it's probably no big deal.
