Same here...ipad 2, iOS 5.0.1 It got half way through reloading and re cover imaging the books, then obviously hit one it didn't like and crashed....now every time I open it it must be stuck on that book and it crashes within a couple of seconds

pretty crappy update that stops you from reading your books....pretty ****** testing procedures to let something as big as "stops ipad being able to read PDF files" get through to production

try closing out of iBooks completely. from the Home screen double tap the Home button, once the taskbar appears hold down on the iBooks icon until it jiggles, press the red icon that appears in the corner. now reopen iBooks and see if that works.

try turning off and then turning on the iPad after you close iBooks.

try a Reset, hold down the Home and Sleep/Wake button for ~10sec, ignore the Slide to Power Off, you will see the Apple logo appear and the iPad will reset. nothing is lost during a reset.

Resetting doesn't work. Nor does unsynchronizing (cleaning out) all books. I had over 1,000 books in my iBooks. Since the 1.5 update, iBooks will crash when it comes to loading a particulare book's cover (don't know which one). Apple could fix this easily by going back to the way they had it in the previous version with respect to covers on pdfs.

I will have to use another reader.
