Lion vs. Exchange 2003 -- Can Entourage Be Installed?

Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. Brand new Mac user here -- my new MacBook Pro came with Lion installed. My company uses Exchange 2003 and is not about to upgrade. I understand that the two are not compatible and may never be. However, a colleague with the previous iteration of OS X has Entourage installed and is getting his mail seamlessly. My question: will Entourage work with Lion and, if so, how/where do I get it? I'm not computer savvy enough to deal with Davmail. Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

Get Office For Mac 2011 Business Edition and it will have Outlook. Entourage was part of previous versions of Office for Mac and is no longer made. The Mail app in Lion will also work with Exchange 2003.

According to what I've read all over this forum and elsewhere, Mail in Lion will not work with Exchange 2003. I've tried it and it doesn't. I don't believe the new editions of Outlook will either. That's why I was asking about Entourage.

If Mail and the Microsoft version of Outlook on Lion will not work with Exchange 2003 neither will Entourage.

To be specific, Office 2008, which includes Entourage, will work with Exchange 2003. Office 2011, which includes Outlook, will not work with Exchange 2003. Outlook now relies on OSX for connectivity. OSX uses Exchange Web Services (EWS) rather than ActiveSync and EWS is only available on Exchange 2007 and later.

Just an FYI: Exchange 2010 now supports Safari on the Mac so you get more capabilies with Outlook Web Access (OWA) than you do with Exchange 2003 or 2007. So if your company has more than a couple of Mac users, it would be advisable to update to Exchange 2010. (In addition to the fact that Exchange 2003 is approaching end-of-life.)

Have yo used entorage 2008 with exchange 2003 through Lion. I would like to be certain before I purchase and install microsoft office 2008. I've been trying to work through this with little luck using Davmail, outlook 2011 and the mail app. Just wondering if you are speaking from experience.

In our organisation we have well over a hundred Entourage users on desktop and portable Macs successfully connecting to our 2003 Exchange servers, using 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.

I had the same problem. Entourage 2008 definitely works with exchange 2003 and Lion but you need to buy the business edition of the Office 2008 suite for this exchange support. Also make sure you dont upgrade Entourage to the web services edition as this does not support exchange 2003 either.

Entourage 2004 and 2008 use WebDAV not EAS (Exchange ActiveSync) to connect to the Exchange 2003 Server. Otherwise you are spot on.
