I was wondering, i want to do a clean install of my new iPhone 4S (ios 5.0.1) as i have still a battery drainage problem and want to do a fresh install (first time in 4 years), but the only thing i do not want to lose is all my text messages that i send and received during the last 4 years.
How can i do this without doing any kind of jailbreaking?

You could delete everything possible off your iPhone except your texts, back it up and then restore from your backup.
Text messages are included in your backup so they should be loaded when you restore from backup. If you would like more control you can use 3rd party software without jailbreaking.

I've used phoneview for some time now and it is well worth the money. If you ever have a need to print a text message thread makes it very easy to do so.
the thing is i think there is somewhere a corrupt setting/file or something, and it stays in the backup :s, i want to set up my phone as a new one, and afterwards only put the messages back in.
i found this site, but i dont think it will work with iphone 4S and imessage and everything.
