The Mail app doesn't have a logout option. You can hide an email account by going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account that you don't want other people to see and slide the switch next to Mail to off (you may also want to turn mail Notes off so that they appear under Mail as opposed to Notes, so that they will also be hidden) - you can then repeat this for other email accounts that you want hidden . Then go into Settings > General > Restrictions, enable restrictions, and switch off 'Allow Changes' next to the mail icon. If you then go into the Mail app the account(s) should no longer appear. To regain access to the account : turn off the restriction and then turn mail back on in the Mail settings.

You do have option to sign out of your account on gmail app on ipad. Once you open your mail, on the top left side, tap on the icon with 4 lines one on the other. It opens the account name with the folders. There tap on ur email Id. Tap on icon showing your account. At the bottom, you will find sign out option. Else you tap and hold on your email account on this page. Sign out option will pop in red.

HI:

i have the same question. I didn't download the gmail app. Using Safari, I signed up after searching 'google' for gmail. Then I signed up. Then I followed the instructions for Gmail. Now o want to sign out because my kids also have gmail accounts but they won't be able to get into their accounts if I don't sign out! This is driving me insane? I would think that google would have fixed this issue by now. It looks as if people have had this question for almost three years?!!?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance to all who try to help.

Your account will log out.

Hope this helped You!!

When the OP posted their question four years ago, there was no Gmail app. By the time these same instructions were given two years ago, the thread had been dormant for two years.

The shown method is ok - just for Gmail app.

You have logged out of gmail app.

However, if you go back to home screen and touch 'Mail' icon, your email account with gmail will open up! So logging out of gmail app didn't really do it!

With iOS 8.1.2 all above responses don't work except going thru mail turn off (King_Penguin). etc.

With iOS 8.1.2 some of accessory adaptors stopped working. Some worked with 'reboot' (holing off switch and home button together for 8+ seconds! Some reports mention that even Apple made original expensive adaptors stopped working!
