Printer Support - Espon 740i

Epson has no drivers for the 740i for Tiger (or ANY OSX product). Can I even use the printer in Tiger??? I am about to convert from OS 9 to Tiger on my iMac DVSE.

BTW: I called the Epson support line, and they told me 10.4 has a "generic" driver, but that I'd loose certain functionality. Huh?

ALSO - the same goes for my Epson 2450 Photo - they have drivers ONLY up to 10.3.X - so... I cannot use my scanner?????

Apple Support says that it gets a gimpy driver, aned a lady tried it today, and her 740i does not work. ALSO - there is NO OS X.4 driver for my scanner! Woops - good I did not open the box for OSX - new printer and new driver - NO!

If I don't get any good feedback, I may just send X.4.3 a packing back to WA...

Have you tried using the plain Stylus Color 740 driver? As I recall the only difference between the 740 and 740i is the translucent plastic cover.

Our new iMac G5 with Tiger works with our 740 without installing anything, I think. I don't think Epson distribute the OS X drivers.

Thanks. No, I have not tried a thing. I wanted to confirm that about $400 worth of hardware won't dry up on me with a change only precipitated by the fact that TurboTax has dropped OS 9 like a wet rag. So.... I if I don't get confirmation on my printer/scanner, I will probably send the OSX back, drive on for a year, and next year get a whole new system (and heavily consider WINDOWS. I have been using 2 iMacs for about 5 years now. OS 9 has been a buggy quirky world. I assume X is better - I use it a little at work. It is more complex, and Safari can be crashy. This, with the software availability issues, makes me want to switch...

OK - I saw an OEM copy of Panther for cheap on-line. I don't loose my Scanner (Epson has a driver for 10.3), but I MAY lose the printer. Anyone know about this? (Epson 740 ion iMac with Panther).
