Esc key is not working
Esc key is not working, the keyboard is not faulty because command+option+esc still works. Speech recognition is off in System Preferences.
Macbook Pro 13, Mac OS X (10.7.2), i7 2.7Ghz 8Gb RAM 500Gb

I am also having this issue. Anyone have tips on how to resolve?
pref>keyboard>keyboard shortcuts (tab)? there you'll see a button to restore the defaults, restart. That did it for me.
Another workaround for the future is ctrl-esc
Sorry for the late response (what, 4 years is a long time?). I just developed this problem, and found this forum. thought it might be worth s a shout out anyway.
If the above reply did not help, then it could be that another application is using the esc key to activate its functionality.
I had unknowingly assigned esc key to activate listening for accessibility. Here is how I solved
Go to System Preference>Accessibility>Speakable Items>Listening key>Change Listening key from esc to something else>ok
the thing that they told me to do did not work should i go into a apple store to see what is wrong
