I just changed my hard drive and the password to my ichat was on mmy keychain i havent used the password in two years. Therefore, I dont recall the password. I wanted to know is there anyway i can reset it i need to get in contact with the people on there. please help!!! 😟

Both AIM and @mac.com offer password recovery or have methods to reset it.
iForgot for Apple based IDs
I always start here for AIM itself. Sign in Top right and the Login page gives the Forgotten Password options.
In both cases you will get offered an Online Option or a email Option.
Hopefully you still have access to any email you listed for password recovery.
Recovering passwords from various Jabber servers can be a little more difficult and may involve emailing them.

I found the password in my keychain, but ichat still will not accept it. Do I need to delete and reinstall ichat? I want to keep all of my buddies if possible

You don't need to to delete the whole app.
Provided that you have not been logged in by some means and deleted your Buddies they will be still there in your Buddy List that is held at the server. (the App links with the Address Book and links in Real Names on the computer)
If you have the Password and it worked before for iChat then you should try logging in at the AIM settings page
(If it is an Name that logs in to AIM)
IF it is an @mac.com or @me.com name from MobileMe but never been used with iChat then it could be that it is too long.
The AIM servers use passwords that do not exceed 16 characters but you can have longer ones at Apple.
I really need to know what sort of name you are trying to Login with as there are many variables.

In the Keychain you are not looking for "iChat".
You should be looking for the Name (Screen Name or ID) that you use in iChat.
