Iphone 4s - Sim and battery problem fixed

Greetings everybody, i would like to share with you some interesting information about my new iphone 4s.

I bought a white 64gb nearly three weeks ago. Since then I was having alot of problems, bot with battery drainage and with a lot of Invalid Sim errors everyday. I'm using an italian Vodafone micro sim, the same I used on my Iphone 4 for more then one year. Since the first day I noticed that there was a very strange draining from the battery in standby. For example if I was having 1 hour of standby the phone would say 33 minutes of usage ( absolutely fake since i was keeping it on the table for testing), and 23 hours of standby was 12 hours of usage ( yes amazing, but absolutely fake) and the battery would drain in one day also with everything disabled. I tried everything, from DFU restore, settings restore, set iphone as new. Nothing worked, the phone was having phantom drainage also withouth anything installed. All the time the usage was 50 % of the standby. SO i decided to call Vodafone and they sent me a brand new microsim. Since i installed the new card I haven't seen a single Invalid SIm error message, and now the battery usage is showing wht I effectively use. I can arrive to up 5 hours of usage in 2 days of standby, which i don't consider bad snce i have everything active now ( localization, push

, email, etc). SO my suggestion is that if you are having the same problems as me to change your microsim, it seems like the iphone 4s don't support all of them. Don't wait for a 5.0.2 that will never come, since the iphone 4s doesn't have any software or hardware problem, it's just a sim problem.

There is no 3g ready sign on the card, but there is a difference with my old microsim.

On the card of my old microsim there is written " VODAFONE MINI-SIM 128k "( i bought this one the week the iphone 4 was released, so it's one of the firsts ) and the new and working one there is "Vodafone MICRO-SIM 128k". This the only difference between the two's, the chip is exactly the same

Juliand85,

I am very glad to hear you fixed the "Infamous Battery Drain" problem. There is almost nothing that feels as good as getting your 4S to function as advertised. Ever since the 3GS that particular problem has been totally demoralizing for those that had to deal with it. A $600 dollar top of the line phone that overheats, eats batteries and give the user about a half day between charges is absolutely horrifying.

But I am beginning to believe that no one knows, myself included, exactly what fixes the problem and there was a time when I did think that the DFU restore as new was the ultimate answer. You and others have proved me wrong.

Posted fixes that worked:

1. Delete e-mail, manually re-install.

2. Shut down all background tasks, hard reboot, drain and recharge the battery.

3. DFU - restore as new without restoring from a backup.

4. Last and most offensive - none of the above work.

As far as changing the SIM card, OK, I believe it. One comment on that is all the units bought from Apple or ATT in the USA ship with new SIM cards already installed. A lot of the folks that have had the Battery problem (and may still have it) are in the category of the phone came with a new SIM.

It is almost like the old days on Windows XP that was giving one problem or another and you finally got it fixed, then some wise-guy would ask what did you do to fix the problem. I can remember very vividly replying "Beats the heck out of me" I just kept messing with it trying this and that and it just started working.

The point I am trying to make is that as long as there appears to be more than one answer to this problem and for some no answer at all Apple really needs to step up to the plate and provide a solution to this issue considering that for some it goes as far back as the 3GS (maybe even earlier, I am not sure).

IPHONE 4S BATTERY PROBLEM SOLUTION AND DISABLED CALLER ID BUTTON SOLUTION

=======================================================================

Hi, I absolutely confir. Since I got my new iPhone 4S the battery drain is high, sometimes it goes 10% per hour or more. Badly can last a day. I had the original microSim from Vodafone Ireland. I also have an old HTC windows mobile with a normal Vodafone SIM, I decided to use a tool to cut the old SIM and place in the new iPhone, now the iPhone consumes 15-20% in a day and was amazed that the HTC used all the battery in less than 12 hours with the newer micro-SIM. So I'm absolutely convinced that it is a problem of the SIM's and not completely a problem on the iPhone or iOS 5, because I have an old 3GS with iOS 5 and an onld SIM and charge it only every 3 or 4 days.

Blame Vodafone and not Apple for the battery problems

Also found the solution to the disabled button to set the CALLER ID that was anoying me for weeks. Put the phone in Flight Mode, which disables the network. Now turn it on again and quickly go to the Phone settings and caller ID menu and the button is active, enable it before the phone picks the network signal again. It works beautifully and now the switch can be turned on and off any time. This one I think you can blame Apple 🙂

Pedrolive,

Quick comment on the Caller ID button.

I have never check it on my phone until I read your post.

I am with ATT here in the U.S. and my Caller ID button is active and working. My SIM card is the one that came with the phone when I purchased it from ATT directly.

I don't know if the Caller ID problem you were having is your provider or Apple. What I do believe is there are several things in the Apple code that can take a hit become corrupted and the phone never seems to notice that it is misbehaving and the worst part is you can restore, reboot or kick it in the backside and the bug will just not clear albeit some, myself included, that persist on banging on it long enough sometimes get lucky and the thing starts working. Go-Figure

What I don't understand is when you turn off the phone and then back on it seems to spend a fair amount of time come back on. I assume it is running startup diagnostics, but whatever it is doing it never seems to find and fix problems. Oh-well we are up and working now so I guess all's well that ends well (knock on wood). 😉

I went from a prepaid sim here in The Philippines to a regular postpaid sim with Globe and the invalid sim problem has gone away but still a serious battery life problem....I am really not happy with this 4S and I am very seriously thinking of trading it for a 4 because I never had these problems with my 4.Also the speed of everything on it does not reflect that it has any speed difference as it is supposed to have a dual core processor...And it seems that my 4 had better speed...Anyone has any suggestions my model number is MD235B UK factory unlocked....supposedly...
