Crash on installation of basic content

Got the new app store Logic Pro yesterday. When I launch it, it downloads the basic content, but crashes when doing the install of basic content. When I restart Logic Pro, it does the download again. Anyone else?

Mac Pro 2010, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

And I notice I hadn't updated my profile. I'm on Lion, not Snow Leopard.

This problem happened four times in exactly the same way. Downloaded the 2 GBytes, started the install process, then after a minute or so, the progress bar went almost all the way to the end and the app shut down. No crash dialog. When I restarted the app, it started the download again.

I rebooted my machine this morning and tried again, but no joy.

I've trashed the app and reinstalled. Downloading basic content (again) now. Film at eleven.

Got it.

  1. After the download, when the installer asks for authentication, I copied the .pkg file from its esoteric location to my desktop. (For me, that esoteric location was /var/folders/r4/mrz_cdns.../0/C/com.apple.MusicApps/audiocontentdownload.apple. com/lp9_ms2_content_2011. You have to grab it before sandboxing wipes it out. I garnered this location by perusal of the console error logs for the failures that had preceded.)
  2. Then I double-clicked on the .pkg file to install it manually. Went like a champ. Did all this before authenticating following the download.
  3. By the way, when I went ahead with authentication, the install also ran to completion for the first time, so it could have just been corrupted .pkg files every time but the last time.
  4. Then Logic Pro initialized and ran like a mother bear.

I rather enjoyed the process of getting it to go. I'm a pretty new Mac guy after being an Apple fanboi baiter for years. The iPad changed me forever. Now I have three iPads, three iPhones, a MacBook Pro, and this eight core beast of a Mac Pro. Having so much fun. And I especially enjoy the community aspect of being a Mac guy. Reminds me of the early days of microcomputers, as we called them. I'm older than Steve Jobs, so I've seen it all.

I have the same problem, and unfortunately the solution as given above doesn't seem to work for me. I get the installer, but then the installer crashes in exactly the same way Logic does.

I have tried to extract the pkg-files using the program 'unpkg', then I get an error which is shorter than my Mac's error log:

Extracting "ProAudioCoreContent"...

Error while extracting archive:(ProAudioCoreContent.pkg/Payload): archived-checksum SHA1's do not match (No such file or directory)

gzip: /var/folders/nt/22yb35k159v28n7_q6ymkxyr0000gn/T/tmpZ83_1L/ProAudioCoreContent. pkg/Payload: invalid compressed data--format violated

cpio: (Empty error message)

cpio: (Empty error message)

This is more or less the same message I get from my error log; there seems to be some error in the checksum. I called Apple, they asked me to reinstall Lion from scratch. Which I did, then I didn't install anything but tried to install Logic Pro straight away, but to no avail; I get exactly the same error.

I am really at a loss; if this doesn't happen to everyone, it must have something to do with the hardware (I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, from the beginning of 2008). I have sent my question and error log to Apple, they are looking into it, but I don't know how long that will take... Meanwhile I would like to record some songs! Ah well, back to good ol' GarageBand then...

At last, it is working!

After quite a bit of Googling, I figured out packages could be corrupted due to a quirk in the modem software. So I deducted the package location from the install log (being http://audiocontentdownload.apple.com/lp9_ms2_content_2011/ProAudioCoreContent.p kg), and I entered this address in my browser on the laptop from my employer, using the VPN connection. Then transferred the file to my Mac and lo and behold, it worked!

So in the end, it was all due to my Thomson TWG870U modem or my UPC (Dutch provider) internet connection.

So happy!
