app won't update

My iPhone won't download app updates. If I go in the app store, there are 2 apps that need updating, but if I try to update them, it doesn't ask me for my password, and exits the app store. The apps are grayed out and labelled "En attente" (french for "Waiting" or something). If I tap them it goes to "Pause", then back to "En attente" if I tap them again.

I tried rebooting the phone, no dice. Being on wi-fi or 3G doesn't change anything. This used to work until a week ago. The last time it happened, I downloaded the apps from iTunes to fix this.
