I have just got an iPad2 and synched it today with my iPhone. The appearance of Safari has altered to incorporate a Bookmarks Bar which I do not want. I have altered the option in Settings 'Always show Bookmarks bar' to Off but it has not removed it. Any suggestions for a novice, non-technical, user to remove it and revert to the initial Safari view?

An option would be to try another browser optimized for iOS devices.

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. It is safe to do, there should be no content loss. It is the same as rebooting your computer.
Now see if you can sccessfully toggle the Bookmarks bar on & off.
