How to remove music purchased on iPhone from both iTunes and iPhone?

Extremely frustrating and I can't seem to find an answer. I purchased an album on iTunes, and I actually don't want most of the songs from the album unfortunately. I bought it on my iPhone, and I want to get rid of the songs that are bad.

When I delete them from my iTunes and then sync, the first thing it does is redownload all the ones that were deleted. I have tried only selected songs and playlists, and it still doesn't work.

Key thing is that I DON'T want these songs anymore, and I can't get my new music onto it without it redownloading all the bad songs. Help please?

For those with iOS11, you can do it this way too.
(And I recommend backing up the music someplace like a storage device before you do this just in case)

Open iTunes (Music) on your phone.

Under "Library" tap on "Albums"

Tap on the Album you don't want on your phone.

It should slide open a new view of that album and in the right upper-ish corner there is a circle with three dots lined up.

Tap that and it will open an options panel.

One of the options is "Delete from Library"

I had purchased a soundtrack from a TV show and it was always causing my music to try to play it off the iCloud when I was out and about listening to music on my phone. That's fine if I have access to wifi but a lot of times I didn't, and that music off the iCloud was eating my data like crazy. It needed to go.

Hope this helps!

Attempting what I think might work in case someone else encounters this problem.

First, allow all of the songs to be synced back onto your computer that you deleted.

Second, uncheck all of the songs from that album, or in the music section of the device page select all artists except for the ones that are in the album.

Third, sync with the iPhone, and make sure either only selected songs, playlists, etc. is clicked or only checked songs.

Fourth, these songs should be off of your phone, in this case delete them off of your computer and then they should be gone forever.

Will reply with the results.

I always set iTunes up so I can manage my music myself rather than trusing iTunes to do it for me. Go into iTunes, connect your phone, click on it in the navigation bar on the left side of the screen. On the Summary tab for your phone go to the bottom and click the check box for Manually Manage Music and Videos.

I think it may try to erase your songs and videos again, at least it used to. But then you can simply drag the songs you want on your phone from iTunes music onto your phone or onto playlists and not have to worry about iTunes syncing stuff back to your phone once you delete it.

AHH! I figured it out! okay so the only way i was able to do it was by getting on my laptop and going to the itunes store. Once logged in, go to "purchased" and scroll the mouse over the album you want deleted (may work for single songs too) and there will be an x in the top left corner. click on the x and itll delete off your phone!!! (my iphone 4s was connected to the computer the whole time)
