disk utility error code

While trying to use Disk Utility, this message shows up:
"The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code 1000)" What does this mean and how can I resolve this?

Hi Martha,

To solve this problem, is better to upgrade to OSX 10.2.8

If you do have this already than you can run Disc Utility from the Start up disc that came with the computer. When you fished doing this than run Disc Utility again but this time from the internal HD as you did before.
