Data Charges from AT&T while on WIFI??
Upon reviewing my data usage charges on AT&T for yesterday, I found something very interesting. Knowing that when I am at home, I am connected to my wireless router over wifi, I decided to check to see if there were AT&T data usage charges at that time (there should NOT be any AT&T data charges while I am connected to my wifi router because my iphone should be sending all inbound/outbound internet traffic through my wifi connection and should not use the AT&T data plan while i am on wifi). Interestingly enough, there ARE data usage charges for the time I was on wifi!! I thought that perhaps my iphone is not routing traffic through my wireless connection while at home, and yet it shows I am connected to wifi and downloads occur much faster than if I was not connected, as I would expect. I am unsure of why I started looking into this today, but it is very interesting. Why? Because AT&T could potentially be charging people for data usage that should not be charged, or the Iphone routing of internet based traffic that should be going over wifi, is being routed to AT&T when it shouldn't be. My wife has IOS 4 and I have IOS 5, both have data charges while connected to WIFI and it has been happening for months, if not since we got our Iphones. For example, we were both home all day yesterday on a wifi connection (known to be working) and we both have data charges when we didn't even leave the house. Comments?
