How to unbold text

Is there a quick way to bold and unbold text in iOS 5?

As far as I can see, the user has to type a word then select it to make it bold. Isn't there a way to simply turn on bold - the equivalent of Ctrl B in Windows - then type a word or more then turn it off again?

Thanks.

Pages is less hassle, I'm really talking about making text bold/unbold in Mail on the iPhone and iPad.

The clumsiest part is when I want to unbold text. Unless I'm missing something, it appears I have to keep typing in bold then select the words I want to unbold then go through the menu to get there.

Happy to be shown a quicker way though :-)

I don't know of a less clumsy way than what we are talking about.

I guess that really the best way to format the text is to type of the text first - and then go back and format it with bold type, italics and underlines - or however you want to format it. It seems to be a little easier to just format what you want after all of the text has been typed than to have to continue typing and then unformat - as you go along.

I know it's not the ideal way to do it - but I don't know of any other way. If there is another way - I am interested in knowing how as well!

Making type bold is app specific - It depends on where you are trying to do this.

If you are doing it in the mail app - you have to type the text and select it and select "bold" from the pop up options. If you are using a word processing app like Pages - you can format the document to use bold type from the formatting icon.

There is no way to make the type bold with a single "tap" command like you would do on a computer with a key command.
