Logic Pro - 19GB of 'optional' content available via in-app purchase.

This seems weird. IN the App Store see the System Requirments sections and it says..."19GB of 'optional' content available via in-app purchase." Logic Pro to buy normally, was gigabites of stuff....thisd App Store purcxhase is only 413Mb.

Can anybody tell me

a. What this 'optional' content via in-app purchase is?

b. How much this 'optional' content via in-app purchase is and

c. Didn' t Logic Pro 9 used to ship with masses of content...I mean Gigabits of the stuff. This App Store Download in only 413MB...doesnt that mean that yes its is less money to buy...but for it would seem less stuff.

Have Apple been very cleaver here...I mean clever?

It actually doesn't state that! Apple says "(19GB of optional content available via in-app download).". Once you buy Logic or MainStage, the downloads are free.

The optional content (actually 2GB are required to be downloaded on first launch) are the existing JamPacks and Apple Loops, as well as a lot of channel strip settings, impulse responses, etc.

Are Apple not aware that we don't all have superfast broadband or download restrictions?

At my old house this would've taken months to download (if at all) and at my new house I have download restrictions.

Once again Apple setting the trend before the technology is really suitable.

Yep you are right Blueberry...it says download NOT purchase! Thanks for pointing that out...I think I may be buying myself a christmas present. SideRealxxx I kinda of think the tech is there now...for most people...if not, most people can get higher speed access via other frineds or family. Its not ideal for everyone agreed but Apple just like to push boundries I guess and I agree with them doing that.

I have a client that won't be able to upgrade because she has a limited speed DSL hookup, she's probably going to change platforms as (for her) there's been nothing but problems with Logic the past few months.

She contacted me becuase she had been using the Apple Software Download service and got a partial install of a Logic upgrade. Never figured out what was going on but we ended up having to start from scratch and re-install the OS.

I think this is a major problem for a lot of people: I don't know where you're based but in rural UK it's an ongoing problem and I speak from experience. Slow connections and constant dropouts are a major headache and accessing via friends & family is hardly convenient and part of Apples vision of convenience.

It's very convenient and lucritive for Apple to make their content exclusive through the App Store with no packaging etc but it doesn't serve everyones needs and it's not convenient.

Do you live near an Apple Retail store? I bet you could take your machine there and use their network connection which should be quick.

Downloaded the upgrade succesfully! Logic seems to be working fine.

Also downloaded add. content. But my question is: Do you really need this

to perform an upgrade? What is new here?

I should mention that Avid started this trend of complete downloads.

If you want Pro Tools with add. content, it´s about the same size.

Upgrade from what? The big downloads are only from new purchases, anyone going from .5 to .6 just needs to download the app like usual.

Personally I don't mind the download but I wish the content was still apple lossless instead of lossy compressed.

The upgrade is 2.5GB, with her dsl line it's several hours, the last 400MB Apple system download corrupted her system disk.

I've just bought Logic Pro on the Mac Appstore and proceeded to download all the additionnal content.

It does take a long time but it didn't cost anything more, no purchase required.

9.1.5, She called Apple before attempting a download. The app itself is 400+ MB, but will not open without downloading and additional 2GB of data.

After the last problem she had with a large system download I don't think she's going to take a chance.

The additional 2GB are only required, if you didn't had the base content installed or it was defect/modified. If you update a regular installation of 9.1.5, you should not need to download anything.
