See if a reset helps.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
I tried the reset you suggested and still have the same problem. Is it possible to roll back to an eaelier IOS?
Unfortunately you cannot roll back to an earlier version of the iOS. Apple does not support it. You can try a couple more things and see if they help. Try quitting all apps and restart. Also, clear Safari and see if that helps.
To quit all apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If the apps that are crashing are the third part apps and not the Apple preinstalled apps - try downloading another app - any free app - you can always delete it if you don't want it. Sometimes that helps and it's worth a try.
If these don't help, you could try restoring your iPad if you want to give that a try. AFAIK, the Safari crashes are still a known issue in iOS 5. If you want to report it as a bug, you can do so here.
Safari crashing for me like crazy on iPad 1 and iOS 5.0.1... It is started when I upgraded to ios 5 somewhere in September .

In my case it is crashing 100%.
My iPad running iOS 5.0.1 is dong the same thing crashing on everything safari, emails, apps just about everything plus I've noticed that browsing online has slowed way down. The other devices I have are not doing this just the iPad 1 generation running the latest firmware it didn't do this a before the update only now!!
My ipad g1 also has the crash problem. - Especially when running a game and a notofication appears. I think its because the g1 cant really cope with the intence load of a game and also show notifications. Somebody suggested putting it in airplane mode, to stop notifications from coming.
Its running out of memory. The Apple tech confirmed this yesterday when I sent him the diags result directly from my iPad as well as logs from my PC. They know that this is a widespread problem but won't admit it. I really wnt my money back but I doubt that will happen. Their solution is to not have any more than one tab open at a time. What a crock. I guess they want all of us to buy the iPad 2 or 3 when it comes out. Its not likely they will fix the memory problem. If they continue to jerk me around, I'll give my iPad to my son and buy an Android tablet. Pretty. WWSD?
Im not so sure. I have a 16gb and ive only used 4gb so it pretty got a ways to go plus I have the iPad 2 and iPad 1 and all the iPhones from the beginning beer had this prob till the 5.0.1 version! It's not effecting iPhone 4 or iPad 2 only on the iPad 1 am I having this issue!
Internal memory, not storage.
I gotta say, I did everything "demo from Pittsburg" said to do to quit all open apps. Boy I never realized I had that many programs opened at one time. I tried that link above that would make safari crash, and I can say now, "it worked great!!!".
Thanks everyone!
Thanks so much. This worked like a charm and makes perfect sense. I also couldn't believe how many apps were open.
if u are running ios 5 try backing up ur ipad so that u won't lose anything the plug it to ur laptop and restore that might help
🙂
Demo,
Thank you. I didn't even realize The iPad had a task bar of recent apps! Closing these and restarting solved my problem.
