Import photos to directory

I've been using Image Capture to import photos from the iPhone to a directory. Most times I bring up Image Capture, the iPhone is not listed under Devices. I find that I need to reset the iPhone before it will show up in Image Capture. At this point, it usually works. I'm surprised at the flakiness. Any hints?

Also, Image Capture does not appear to work if the iPhone is not connected vis USB. That is, it doesn't work over WiFi. By design, or a bug?

I'm atually a bit surprised by the flakiness of communicating between the iPhone and my desktop. I used to sync and move photos via Bluetooth to a Nokia phone.
