Dec 12, 2011 2:01 AM in response to michaelpeterby Roger Wilmut1,★HelpfulNothing will open an AppleWorks database except Appleworks. The only way to move your data is to save it as ASCII and import the result into Numbers, Bento, FileMaker Pro or some other database program. Numbers will display the contents as a spreadsheet which may be satisfactory for simple data: Bento is a simple database and may be OK for your use. FileMaker Pro is extremely powerful and has a steep learning curve, but will handle complex databases.
However exporting your database this way will obviously not export your layouts, and calculation fields will bring over the result, not the calculation. There is no way of getting layouts or calculations to export to another program.
These pages examine the issue of AppleWorks databases in more detail:

As you are probably aware, AppleWorks will not run under Lion: so although you can open Word Processing documents in Pages and Draw documents in EazyDraw, you must export and convert your databases before upgrading to Lion or you will lose them.

In addition: for opening the file with Bento You have to save the AppleWorks file as a .tsv file (see: http://www.filemaker.com/products/bento/appleworks.html)
