GCC Elite 20/600 and Lion

Hi All

I have a venerable but fully servicable GCC Elite XL 20/600 which I really do not want to scrap.

I am attempting to connect it to my MacBook Pro (late 2011 model) using an ethernet crossover cable. I have the original .ppd file, version 3.31.

Having searched the discussion threads I found this:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2432161

which seemed to provide an answer to my problem. However, once I have completed the steps I get the folowing message:

Unable to verify the printer on your network.

‘192.168.1.10’ may not exist or is unavailable at this time.

Would you still like to create the queue?

I have tried IPP and LPD options in Print & Scan

I have an ethernet router which I could use to make the connection ... but it seems to me that the crossover cable should work.

Does anyone have any idea what I should try next?

Cheers

Paul

I have resolved this.

I have connected the printer to my wirless router using an ethernet cable, and added the device using the LDP option ... Sorted!

Hi gabri8781

Look at the information in the first link:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2432161

... the instructions for setting the printer’s IP address are there.

I couldn’t get my printer online with a wired connection (standard ethernet or crossover), but by chance I thiught to connect it via my wireless router. Perhaps you will be able to get it to work - if you do please let me know by posting a reply here.

Good luck

Hello Paul

I managed to run the printer by Ethernet connection to the router and Line Printer Daemon .... now the printer works but I cant choose the tray of the press (for example in the print dialog of Photoshop)

in the window "add printer" in Lion I entered the IP of the printer, but in "print options" generic postscript printer "

thanks again aid, I have to work with this printer, i'm very in trouble 😟

Hi

Good start!

Are you using the GCC printer driver? I’m using the file supplied on the CD that came with the printer (Elite_XL_20_600.ppd driver version 3.31) which I have copied to:

root > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > GCC

There is a simple text version in the same location. I was then able to select the .ppd driver when configuring within Print & Scan.

If you don’t have the driver I could email you the files. Let me know.

Hi All,

I'm coming into this 2 years too late, but I am trying to get my MacBook Pro (OSX9.2) talking to my GCC Elite XL 20/600 directly via eithernet cable.

IP address: 192.168.1.6

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Printer IP: 192.168.1.010

Through luck & https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2594156?start=0&tstart=0 , I have managed to get them talking (printer proxy says: PS file spooling & sending to printer... printer say: PS file receiving, blah blah blah).

The when it gets to 100%, the PS file just disappears & nothing prints out!

Is the file too big to print (66mb) or is it a comms problem?

Or should I connect them via my old Netgear router?

Any help gratefully received.
