How to delete calendar event?

The menial suggests pressing Edit and delete like on iPad, but on my 4s there is no Edit button. How do we delete an event?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1, No Edit button

I asked Siri: "Delete event" she prompted me to select an event

Sorry Darrell I cannot make changes to this event

was her reply BECAUSE I said so, it is my calendar, right? I asked confusing her limited ability to reply. It is like arguing with a two year old with no chance of winning.

I suspect I got into this mess with both the mac's iCal and Yahoo Cal syncing to my iPhone now despite the recurring event being long over, every Tuesday it wakes me up with the alert tone 2 hours in advanced and at the time of the event.

If I remember to turn off the alert Monday night, it syncs back and resets the alert to wake me up. Sync's with what? I've just gone back to the mac and Yahoo cals and the events are no longer there.

Out of sync is the diagnosis, how do we fix it and remove phantom iCal events trapped on an iPhone?

You'd think, would you like me to remove the screwed up recurring event from your calendar? would be the friendly way to go. I'm going back to the paper pocket calendar at this point my digital life is pushing me over the edge and cannot be trusted with such important information. Sorry I can't answer the question only add my additional sympathy / frustration.
