Does icloud backup notes?

I want to know if iCloud is backing up my Notes (the Notes icon/app on my iphone 4S with iOS 5.0.1? I do NOT have Notes "synced" with iCloud (that setting is off). But when iCloud is backing up my phone does it backup my Notes? Again, i don't use iCloud to sync any devices, i just use it to backup info that is on my phone, like my contacts, settings, pictures, etc. I've read all the Apple documentation about what iCloud backsup and in the list of stuff it DOESN'T include Notes!! What's the deal?
