iPod Classic - mac os x can't repair the disk

Recently upgraded from oSX 10.4 to 10.6 as well as iTunes whatever to iTunes 10.5.1.

Now, when I try to sync my iPod Classic, I get "mac os x can't repair the disk" errors.

What gives?

  1. Reset the Ipod - Press Menu and Center Button for about 10 secs comes ON. till the Apple logo
  2. Put iPod in Disk mode - After above, press Pause and Center Button.
  3. Connect to Mac.
  4. Open Diskutilty
  5. Select your Ipod
  6. Click on FirstAid
  7. Click Repair

If it can't do that, then your ipod Hardisk need to be replaced.

Good Luck!

In case you might want further frustration of replacing the iPod harddisk, instead of using it as PAPER WEIGHT try google "iPod SSD harddisk replacement". but it is only about 32GB.

Good luck!

yep, showing 5512 Reallocated sectors. Guessing that's bad.

I've got a squaretrade warranty so they'll be fixing it up for me.

1.5 year old ipod. pretty weak performance apple. guess this is a dying niche though. Just not sure about accessing everything via a pay cloud service via pay data plans where I may or may not be getting a signal. hmmm. I hope the large storage capacity ipods remain.
