mirror imaging ios5 iphone 4

I was at a tech seminar today and the Apple guy was talking about mirror imaging on an iPad2 to AppleTV worked great. He said it also worked with iPhone 4S. People with iPads and iPhones logged in and could over take the imaging which he said no problem try it out. At the end people with iPhone 4 said they could also do it. When I got home I tried it with my iPhone 4 and the imaging button appears and it has a check mark by my AppleTV but no mirror imagining it only streams my music. I'm thinking the audience members that thought they where on at the seminar must have not really been mirroring to the AppleTV and since there were so many people there they just got confused. Am I right that only the iPhone4S can mirror?

Thanks,

There is AirPlay and AirPlay mirroring, only the 4s can do mirroring.

The difference being that with basic AirPlay the phone sends the audio or video stream as it is to the Apple TV and the Apple TV plays it. This means that the Apple TV has to be able to play the stream and also in the case of video, the App or the website has to enable this feature. Mirroring is where the phone converts what is on it's screen into a format that the Apple TV can understand and sends it to the Apple TV to play, this means whatever is on the phone screen can be mirrored to an Apple TV.

Because you can only use AirPlay, you may have picked a source that hasn't enabled video, but otherwise you should be able to play video too.

Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).

I have created a User Tip to list Apps that have been tested with Video Airplay, if you have any Apps that you have tested please leave details in the comments at the bottom of the User Tip or email me if you don't have commenting privileges.
