The task bar is missing ...
In other words, the permanent bar across the bottom with Safari, Mail, Pictures and iTunes no longer shows up ... any ideas of how to return it? I've rebooted and still doesn't work. Thanks!

Try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
Not to nit pick - but that is the dock - not the task bar - that you are describing.
The task bar is the area that is accessed by double tapping the home button - where your recently used apps reside - at the bottom of the iPad.
Yes, thanks ... I called it that in my initial search, but using the term 'dock' pulled up docking type stations. I will try the above fix and post back if it works. Thanks again!
