A heads up for the future.
If you notice that your charger is a lot hotter than normal and notice that the back of your iPad is also very hot, you may have a damaged/defective charger.
The charger will feel unusually hot, and, I bet, the back of the iPad will be too hot touch for any prolonged handling.
I trashed my first iPad1 (still under warranty) when the charger got very hot, got the back of my iPad hot enough to crack the glass front panel with one long, thin, continuous crack.
Apple Store gave me both a new iPad and new charger. The replacement has been fine for over a year, now.
Just a heads up;)
