Beatles albums out of order on my iPhone

I bought selected songs from The Beatles Box Set on iTunes. The albums show up in the correct chronological order in my iTunes library:

Disc 1 of 15: "Please Please Me"

Disc 2 of 15: "With The Beatles"

Disc 3 of 15: "A Hard Day's Night"

Disc 5 of 15: "Help!"

Disc 6 of 15: "Rubber Soul"

Disc 10 of 15: "The Beatles (White Album)"

Disc 11 of 15: "Yellow Submarine"

Disc 12 of 15: "Abbey Road"

But on my iPhone, when I choose Artists > The Beatles, I see:

All Songs

With The Beatles

Please Please Me

Help!

A Hard Day's Night

The Beatles (White Album)

Rubber Soul

Yellow Submarine

Abbey Road

Normally when it's not a box set it is in alphabetical order but I don't even see that. Even more strange, when I turn the iPhone sideways for Cover Flow, the albums are in the correct disc order. So I'm trying to rationalize why my iPhone would show both correct and incorrect orderings in different modes. Could it be an iOS glitch?

On an iPhone the albums would normally be listed in alphabetical order by album title with leading articles (a/an/the) omited. You can force a different order by setting custom sort album values. I don't have the box set in question but perhaps they've done something clever with the sort album values to try to keep the box set together and in a particular order while still showing as separate albums.

See Grouping tracks into albums for general tips.
