This is a user forum, Apple phone support might help with this... however, I'd first try the Avid Pro Tools site.

The MBox does need a driver, and a MIDI driver as well, you NEED to check the Avid site first, I'm not sure if the MBox/Drivers are Lion compatible, if not you're out of luck until Avid releases new drivers that work with Lion. Unfortunately, this might require a Protools install, not sure about that though.

M-box does have drivers and as Pancenter said, you need to go there first. Try this 1st link; it has compatibility information and driver update links. The 2nd link is for M-Audio products forum. You should be able to find something at that.

PS - The Avid website leaves a lot to be desired; the information on the same product is all over the place and not easy to find, so be patient.

Im having the same issue. Ive been travelling for 4 years and was running Logic 8 and mbox2 seamlessly but now Ive gone to set my studio up again and nothing works. Obviously Logic doesnt work with 10.7 so an upgrade is needed there but now Avid own digidesing and the mbox2 is unrecognisable with osx10.7

Ive scoured the Avid site looking for drivers but it seems that you need to upgrade to Protools 8 to get the driver for mbox2 to work with osx10.7!

So thats $200 for the Logic upgrade and a further $150 for the Protools upgrade. Not a rediculous fee but annoyiong none the less.

Did anyone manage to find a work around to get osx10.7 to recognize mbox2 without upgrading to Protools 8?

My iMac did a weird restart but when my mac restarted all the lights on my mbox2 lit up.

Hi dankly - and you others on this line

I've downloaded the Mbox 2 Driver for Pro Tools 9.0 (Mac) the one Dankly sugests above - and it makes my mbox2 light up - but both my garageband and ableton live went down right after. They both takes very long time to open. And garageband then comes up with midi error message.

I've tried to look for help on Avids site but could not find any so far.

Any suggestions????

As I've stated before, the MBox "Core Audio MIDI Drivers" are not Lion compatible so Logic generates a MIDI error.

However, the current drivers do allow for Audio use but until they fix the MIDI driver you will need a separate audio interface.

I think Digi states this, something to the effect that the drivers are only compatible up to Snow Leopard.

You will need to remove the Digi/Avid/ProTools/Whatever MIDI Driver.

Yes this seems to be a very frustrating problem, I just had to go through a few hours of messing around and deleting anything digi and in the process had to uninstall PT8le. If the loophole is to just get rid of the MIDI driver, how is this accomplished so as to keep PT8 and use the Mbox2 whilel not causing a problem with Logic/live etc. This couldn't have happened at a worst time for me 😟 but the help is appreciated 😀

Well, I did quite a good amount of web searching and found that the MIDI drivers are the problem or at least one cause for this hangup to occur, thank you Pancenter and all of those who helped. Everything seems to be running fine now, Logic9 and PT8 and Live8, so far 😀

If you're using a condensor mic then you need to make sure you have phantom power switched on (+48V).

The mono switch should be turned on unless you're using 2 mic for a stereo recording.

Play around with the "Mix" dial as I still make this mistake.

Check your input settings in Logic to be mbox and set the input on the channel strip to input 1.

Record enable the track... If you've done these things then you should be good to go.

If not then its a deeper issue.

Dankly: I'm about to get a new macbook (with lion) and was going to get the driver. I have an mbox 2 for logic 9, are you saying that my mbox 2 will work for audio(mics and guitar inputs) its just my midi keyboard attached to the Mbox that won't work? I could hook up a usb to my computer if that's the case. How do I bypass the error?

Yep. Provided you follow the instructions and install the driver properly then you shouldn't have any issues.

As for the keyboard it's probably best if you USB it direct into the MacBook.

I've had problems in the past with midi through the mbox.

I use a Roland and just enable it within logic.

All mic and DI (direct inject) inputs will be able to be recorded in logic with the mbox.

I do use a DI box for guitars only because it will give a cleaner, more balanced signal which is also shielded but it's not necessary.
