Dear community
I use pages09, keynote09. and due to my work nature I have to write articles and prepare presentations, so I need to add alfa, beta, gamma symbols frequently, thankfully can anyone show me how to add such letters, thanks in advance

There are some third party application that can be use liked MathType Equation or MathMatic Personal that have the characters you need
Some fonts have alpha, beta and other characters and can be searched for in the Special character palette in the Edit menu.

Alpha, Beta etc are not Roman letters, they are Greek.
The Special character palette you have in Pages as I said in my post above.
The third party application you find on the net.
You can use the Character Viewer (Edit > Special Characters). Click on the gear wheel at the top left and select customize to add symbol categories if what you need is not already on the list.
@ Csound 1: you are correct, sorry I always mix with latin, roman, and greek nomenclature, but all share one source (ancient language)
@ Tom Gewecke: you are absolutely correct, I went in special characters, but unfortunately there is no alfa, so if you kindly suggest me with web link to go to and download such chatacters
You have alpha character too in the special character palette. I told you that. Please read all in the posts.

Hey no problem, just didn't want you to Google for Roman characters if Greek was desired 🙂
It's all Greek to me anyhow.

Hej, No unfortunately I dont speak ancient languages, but my field as Molecuar Biologist require me to use such letters 🙂
I found how to type beta, gamma, and the rest using pages, but unfortunately no alfa character, so any suggestion peter

System Preferences… > Languages & Text > Edit List… > check Ελληνικα (Ellinika = Greek) > OK > drag it to 2nd top of list
You can now hit command spacebar when you need a Greek character eg a = α, b = β etc and hit command spacebar when you wish to switch back to Latin script.

Try entering the search term using the greek spelling (alpha) rather than the Italian (Alfa, as in Alfa Romeo). Here's my result:
This is the Tiger version of the Character Palette, so you'll probably see a few differences in the framing on your screen.
The rest of the characters to the right of the pink highlighted α are beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, kappa, lamda, mu, nu, xi, and omicron. Pi, rho, sigma (final), sigma, tau, upsilon, phi, chi, psi and omega are in the next line of the table.
