Question mark on documents folder

I have a user who cleaned up her desktop and moved a bunch of folders over to the documents folder on the doc. It now has a question mark and there are no files that come up when you click on it. I pulled the folder to the desktop and it went away.

Some of her folders were in a documents folder located in Applications. She is still missing a number of folders though.

I have checked other profiles on the machine and can't find anything.

Any ideas on how to recover these lost files?
